Dr. Russell Cherry, PsyD.

 

Dr. Cherry was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He served two years in the Army and graduated from San Francisco State University.  He had graduate training practice conducting forensic evaluations of insanity, competency, and risk assessment at three different maximum-security prisons.  He completed his predoctoral internship at the U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners, the premier federal forensic assessment center, training in Forensic Neuropsychology, while also completing a practica evaluating individuals with acquired brain injury at a rehabilitation center.  His doctoral dissertation investigated the malingerering of cognitive impairment.  He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology at University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, conducting neuropsychological evaluations and rehabilitation therapy of veterans at various Northern California VA hospital locations.  Dr. Cherry then spent a year in Quito, Ecuador, evaluating patients at the Hospital Por La Policia, and perfecting his Spanish. 

In 2002, Dr. Cherry moved to Alaska.  He worked at the Alaska Native Medical Center for three years, as well as starting a private practice.  He began working at Providence Behavioral Medicine Group in 2005, where he has been conducting forensic and neuropsychological evaluations of adolescent and adults who present with a wide range of psychological and neurocognitive issues.  He has a special interest in acquired brain injury, dementia, and psychosomatic issues.

Dr. Cherry is a member of the Alaska Psychological Association and American Psychological Association.  He has lived in Denmark, Venezuela, and Ecuador, and has traveled extensively through S.E. Asia and S. America.  During his Asian travels, he motorcycled across Vietnam and Cambodia and climbed many of the peaks comprising the Ring of Fire.  Most recently, he was traveling in Colombia.  You may find him hiking, skiing, or kayaking on Alaska's various trails, peaks, and waterways.
