The Tumor Registry at Providence Alaska Medical Center (PAMC) has been registering cancer patients since January 1, 1995. To date, we have accessioned over 8,000 cancer cases. The majority of these cases are analytic, which are patients diagnosed and/or receiving their first course of cancer-directed treatment at PAMC. As required by the State of Alaska, PAMC also accessions non-analytic cases. These are patients who are seen at PAMC with a known diagnosis of cancer who were initially diagnosed and received their first course of treatment at another institution.
The PAMC Tumor Registry uses PRECIS Software by IMPAC to manage the Tumor Registry database. PRECIS meets the Commission on Cancer Standards for Cancer Data Management and the reporting requirements of the State of Alaska Cancer Registry. PRECIS has a built-in system of edit checks to ensure data quality. Additionally, 10% of all analytic cases are reviewed by physician members of the Cancer Committee to verify primary site, staging, and treatment information.
PRECIS users have access to the National Oncology Data Base (NODB), which offers aggregated information from over 180 cancer registries throughout the United States. The NODB offers PRECIS users the ability to compare their tumor registry data with nationally representative tumor registry data.
The reference date of PAMC’s Tumor Registry is January 1, 2000.
