Statewide health system recognized for improvement in health care technologies
ANCHORAGE, AK - Over the last five years, Providence Health & Services Alaska has invested heavily in a wide variety of technologies to improve patient care. The publishers of Hospital and Health Networks magazine recently recognized that commitment by naming PHSA a winner of a 2007 Most Wired award in their July issue.
The winners were chosen based on the ways they use information technology to address five key areas:
• safety and quality
• customer service
• business processes
• workforce issues
• public health/safety
Providence was listed in the "Most Improved" category, comprising the 25 health care organizations with scores that improved the most from 2004 to 2005. Among the projects earning recognition were the ProvChart project, which provides an electronic medical record for each patient; and a project to cover the entire campus of Providence Alaska Medical Center with a wireless communications network.
"From new MRI machines helping patient fight cancer, to electronic medical records helping hospital personnel streamline patient flow behind the scenes, technology plays a key role in improving health care quality for everyone," said Al Parrish, chief executive of the statewide health system. "We've made a concerted effort to bring these kinds of cutting-edge technologies to bear on behalf of our patients, and it's gratifying to see that effort recognized."
Hospitals and Health Networks conducts its Most Wired survey annually. The magazine uses the results to name the 100 Most Wired hospitals and health systems, as well as the 25 Most Improved. The July H&HN story detailing the results is available at www.hhnmag.com.
