Quality Improvement at Providence

We know how important reliable information is to you and your family when making health care decisions. Along with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), we will help you find the right information to make those decisions.

The JCAHO Quality Report uses checks, pluses, and minuses to help you compare a health care organization with similar accredited organizations.

Providence Alaska Medical Center is committed to providing the highest quality of care and service to the community we serve and are proud of our performance in meeting the high standards set by JCAHO.

Reporting Concerns
The public may contact the Joint Commission’s Office of Quality Monitoring to report any concerns or register complaints about a Joint Commission-accredited health care organization by either calling 1/800-994-6610 or e-mailing complaint@jointcommission.org.

We appreciate the process of assessment of our quality since it helps us to continuously improve to an even greater level of excellence. This requires constant vigilance and determination to be the “best of the best” so that anyone that comes to Providences experiences “Excellence” in care – one of our Core Values that drives us everyday.

The National Quality Improvement Goals we are focusing on are:

Heart Attack Care:  The Heart Center at Providence has a full range of cardiovascular services. From the time the patient reaches the Emergency Room with symptoms of an heart attack, our team of Emergency Physicians, Cardiologists, nurses, and Cardiovascular lab technicians are immediately activated to perform the needed procedures to restore blood flow to the heart and minimize permanent damage.

Heart Failure: This chronic condition often results in several hospitalizations.  We have developed a standardized approach that can be customized to fit each individual to help the physicians and care team assure that the best care is given every time.

Pneumonia: Our Hospitalists (physicians who practice only in the hospital) have led the way in developing a standardized approach to caring for patients with pneumonia. These orders are based on the latest research and follow the national guidelines for treatment. We are working very hard to improve the care in this area so that patients can return home as soon as possible.

There are many other areas of care that we are actively working to improve, such as the care of premature infants, care of patients in the critical care areas,  heart surgery care, prevention of surgical infections, care of patients receiving sedation and anesthesia and many more.

We know that there is always ways to improve, and our commitment to you is to be continuously striving to reach a higher level of service. Please feel free to contact us at any time to talk about our patient safety and quality initiatives.
