
Cathy Baldwin-Johnson, Medical Director: Dr. Baldwin-Johnson oversees the medical aspects of Alaska CARES. She is a family physician with Providence Matanuska Health Care Associates. In 2002, she was named Family Physician of the Year by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Corinne (Cory) Bryant, MSW, Center Manager: Cory manages the daily operations of Alaska CARES, including oversight of the CHILD Safety Team and case management, to ensure the efficient coordination of child abuse cases in a sensitive manner. Cory has a master’s degree in social work, and has over 20 years of experience working with abused and neglected children. Marg Volz, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP): Marg provides comprehensive medical evaluations for children when there is a concern for possible sexual or physical abuse or neglect. Marg, a pediatric nurse practitioner, has worked in the field of child maltreatment for over 10 years and co-founded the Children's Advocacy Center (The Children's Place) in the Mat-Su Valley. Marg has been a pediatric nurse for over 30 years and started the Shaken Baby Prevention Project at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Julia Mitzel, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP): Julia conducts examinations of sexually and physically abused children, and provides comprehensive forensic medical evaluations for children who have been removed from the home due to maltreatment. Julia has worked in the fields of adult sexual assault and women’s health, and also has experience in the field of psychiatry. Judith Presson, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP): Judith conducts examinations of sexually and physically abuse children, and provides comprehensive forensic medical evaluations for children who have been removed from the home due to maltreatment. Judith has previous experience at a Providence hospital in Washington, working with adult sexual assault, child physical and sexual abuse, and health evaluations for children entering foster care. Erin Daniel, Family Care Coordinator: Erin conducts crisis intervention, forensic interviews, assessments and referrals, and follow-up telephone counseling and service monitoring for families. Erin has worked investigating child abuse and neglect in Alaska and Ohio. She also has experience working with pre-adolescents and adolescents in psychiatric treatment. Jessica Nichols, Project Specialist/Family Care Coordinator: Jessica coordinates Diversity Schoolhouse and other outreach and education activities. Jessica conducts crisis intervention, forensic interviews when needed, assessments and referrals, and follow up counseling and service monitoring for families. Deanne Antioquia, Administrative Coordinator: As the administrative coordinator at Alaska CARES, Deanne coordinates the center’s outpatient medical services, including scheduling and records management, and acts as liaison with the Anchorage Police Department and the Alaska Office of Children’s Services. Darlene Reed, Administrative Assistant: Darlene assists with reception, appointment scheduling, records, files management and other administrative support. Helen Ly, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA): Helen works under the supervision of a licensed nurse, assisting children and youth as they receive services at Alaska CARES and performing basic routine nursing duties. Advocates: Child advocates from STAR (Standing Together Against Rape) and ANJC (Alaska Native Justice Center) provide support and assistance to Alaska CARES clients, including information and referral as appropriate.
